A fellow Twitterer (Tweeter?) posted this link a couple of days ago, and I’m just now getting around to passing it on to my blog crowd. Sim-based videos are popping up like dandelions in spring, but this one really stands out. It’s called “Slowdown – Indian Summer at Stark’s Twin Oaks”. Life got you stressed? This will take the edge off, I promise. Great work, Andreas!

Here’s a little tutorial I cobbled together for some fellow repainters who were working on the Carenado C185. Carenado doesn’t release layered paint kits, so the video shows my work-around that delivers layered results using the flattened blank textures.

Work from home, they said. Be your own boss! Set your own hours! Sounds good, doesn’t it? Only I’ve been doing the freelance thing full-time for six years now, and the promise of freedom is a whole lot sweeter than the reality. On a typical day, I’m up early, racing around from project to project, working way harder than I ever did as a salaried employee. Sometimes, when I’m feeling burned out, I have to remind myself that one of the supposed benefits of being self-employed is not having a jackass for a boss. So, I let myself punch the alarm, roll over, and go back to sleep yesterday. All of which is a long way of saying that Fanboy Friday has become Sim Saturday for one week only.
So what’s being going on in the FS universe this week? Continue reading

Did you ever have a week in which you seemed busy every day, but at the end of it had nothing particular to show for it? It’s been one of those around here. All I can remember is running like my hair was on fire, swinging from project to project, and then poof… it’s Friday. I didn’t have a chance to ‘sim much at all, and didn’t get a lot of scenery work done, either. Still, I promised myself I would do my best to meet my weekly blogging deadline, so here goes… (I know, way to sell it, Womack.) Continue reading

It’s been a hell of a week. I mean that in the original bad sense, as in I’m damn glad it’s nearly over. The details aren’t appropriate for a flightsim blog, but suffice it to say that I’m all too happy to leave the “real world” behind for a while and dig into FS instead. Here’s a grab bag of fun stuff that helped me cope during the past few days… Continue reading
While Francois is away in Romania, I promised him I’d post some shots of the Emma Field X progress, so here they are. Continue reading
No Fanboy Friday today, folks. I’m truly sorry about that. But as flight ‘simmers, you know about pain and disappointment, don’t you? Pain is one of your favorite developers releasing a long-awaited plane, and you having no time to fly it.
There it sits, idle on my hard drive: the shiny new Accusim B-17 from A2A. The plan was for me to take an introductory flight around the PNW, and then rave to y’all here about how great it was, maybe throw in some jaw-dropping pics of the beautiful old lady in action. As it does sometimes, life intervened yesterday and I ended up going to bed without once having even attempted to fire up those big radials. The closest I got was watching the introductory videos over breakfast. And now I’m about to leave for the weekend to go up to Seattle with my wife (which is great honey, honest ;-)), so it’ll probably be next week before I get a chance to zoom around in the sky.
In the meantime, how about checking out the archive of past Fanboy Fridays? There’s something in there for just about every plane nut. And hey, enjoy your weekend! I know I’ll enjoy mine.
